Home & Personal Finance Toolkit
Running a home is a small business of its own: salaries come in, rent or EMIs go out, bills fall due on different dates, insurance policies renew once a year and nobody remembers where the property papers are kept. Most families keep all of this in their heads, in a diary or in scattered phone notes.
This toolkit gives every one of those jobs a ready Excel workbook that does the adding up for you: a monthly budget with a savings rate, a loan schedule that shows what a prepayment saves, a bills calendar, an index of family documents and policies, a register for the people who help at home, and an inventory for insurance claims. Everything stays on your own computer. It is a record-keeping kit, not financial advice.
Made for: Families and couples, people living on their own, working parents, retired people managing a pension, and anyone who looks after the household paperwork.
What each one does
🏠 Monthly Household Budget (Excel)
Decide once how much the household means to spend on each thing, then jot down money as it comes in and goes out. The Month sheet compares plan with actual for every category, adds up fixed bills, everyday spending and the money moved to savings, and shows the share of income you kept against your own savings target. The Year sheet lays twelve months side by side so you can see which months are heavy (school fees, festivals, insurance renewals).
- Settings: household name, currency symbol, the month to view, the first month of your year and your savings target in percent
- Budget sheet: up to 50 categories, each marked Fixed, Variable or Savings, with a monthly planned amount (18 common household categories filled in to start)
- Income sheet: date, source, earner and amount for salaries, pension, rent received, interest and side income
🏦 Loan & EMI Tracker with Prepayment (Excel)
Type the loan amount, interest rate, tenure and first EMI date: the workbook works out the EMI and writes the full amortisation schedule, showing for every month how much of the EMI goes to interest and how much reduces the loan. Add a one-time prepayment or a small extra amount every month and see at once how many months it cuts and how much interest it saves. Mark each EMI as paid to always know the balance still owed.
- Loan sheet: loan amount, yearly interest rate, tenure in months (up to 30 years), first EMI date, an extra monthly payment and a one-time prepayment in any EMI month
- Results: EMI, total interest without prepayment, total interest with prepayment, interest saved, months saved, the date the loan closes and the balance still owed today
- Schedule sheet with up to 360 rows: EMI date, opening balance, interest, principal, prepayment, closing balance and interest paid so far
📅 Bills & Subscriptions Due-Date Tracker (Excel)
Electricity every month, broadband every quarter, the streaming app once a year, the car insurance on some date in March: list each bill once with how often it comes and when it was last paid, and the workbook works out the next due date, counts the days left and flags anything overdue or due soon. An Upcoming sheet lists the next bills in date order, and a 12-month calendar shows how much money each month needs. Mark subscriptions you want to review or cancel and see what they cost in a year.
- Bills sheet: bill or subscription, category, provider, consumer or account number, amount, frequency (monthly, every 2 months, quarterly, every 4 months, half-yearly, yearly or one-time), first due date, last paid date, auto-pay and paid-from
- Next due date, days left and status (Overdue, Due today, Due soon, OK) calculated for every bill
- Yearly and monthly cost of every bill, and a Keep / Review / Cancel column for subscriptions
🗄️ Family Documents & Policies Index (Excel)
When a passport is about to expire, a claim must be filed or someone in the family falls ill, the question is always the same: where is the paper? This workbook is a map of the family's important documents and insurance policies. For each one it records who it belongs to, where the original is kept, where the scanned copy is, the nominee and the renewal date, and it warns you before anything expires. It deliberately has no place for passwords or PINs.
- Members sheet: each family member with relation, date of birth, blood group and phone
- Documents sheet: member, document type from a list (identity cards, passport, driving licence, birth and marriage certificates, property papers, vehicle papers, bank and deposit records, will, medical and education records, tax papers, warranties), last 4 digits of the number, issued by, issue and expiry dates, where the original is kept, where the digital copy is, nominee and notes
- Status for every document: Valid, Renew soon (within your warning period), Expired or No expiry
🧹 House Help Salary & Advance Register (Excel)
The cook, the cleaner, the driver, the nanny: paying them fairly and on time is easier with a written record that both sides can trust. List each person once with their monthly salary and paid leaves; each month enter the leaves taken, any bonus and any advance being recovered, and the register works out what to pay. Advances given and recovered are tracked person by person, and a receipt sheet prints a payment slip to be signed.
- Staff sheet: name, work (cook, cleaning, driver, nanny, gardener, guard, elder care), phone, address, start date, monthly salary, paid leaves per month, ID proof and police verification noted, emergency contact
- Pay register: one row per person per month with leaves taken, extra leaves beyond the allowance, leave deduction worked out on the days of that month, bonus or overtime, advance recovered and net amount paid, with date and mode of payment
- Advances sheet: date, person, amount given, reason and the planned monthly recovery
🛋️ Home Inventory for Insurance (Excel)
After a fire, flood or theft, an insurer asks for a list of what was lost, what it cost and proof that you owned it. Few people can write that list from memory on the worst day of the year. This workbook lets you walk through the home room by room once, noting each valuable item with its brand, serial number, purchase date, price and where the bill is kept, and checks whether you have a photo and a receipt for each. Totals by room and category tell you whether your contents cover is in the right range.
- Settings: household and address, currency symbol, insurer and contents policy number, and your list of rooms
- Items sheet with 500 rows: room, item, category, brand and model, serial number, purchase date, quantity, price paid, estimated value now, warranty end date, where the receipt is kept, photo taken and receipt kept
- Calculated for every item: total paid, value for a claim, warranty status and age in years, and whether proof is complete
⚡ Online Monthly Budget Planner
A quick monthly budget without opening Excel. Pick your currency, list the month's income and your spending categories with what you plan to spend and what you actually spent. The planner adds up fixed bills, everyday spending and money moved to savings, shows what is left over and your savings rate against your target, and gives you a tidy page to print or download as Excel or Word. Your household name, currency and target are remembered on this device; nothing is uploaded.
- Currency choice (rupee, dollar, euro, pound, dirham, riyal and more) with the right number style for it
- Date style choice: DD-MM-YYYY, MM-DD-YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD
- Income lines for every earner and source
